i made a website for the future

i made a website for the future.

it's a tiny website where you can write little note as if the future you're wishing for was already here. this is a bad sentence, let me try again : a website where you imagine what would it specifically be like if the future was now.

'specifically' is the important word here.

the problem with wishes is that they're usually very broad. when you wish for the future, you wish for happiness and money and beauty and fun and all the big stuff. but i am convinced a better future only gets build in the specifics.

not happiness, but not ever having to put an alarm clock ever again.

not beauty, but putting on clothes that makes you feel radiant and sexy in the morning.

not love, but a familiar face you want to snuggle with at night.

that's why I made the question : You wake up on an ordinary Saturday in the future. What do you wish to see?

it's then terribly simple : you send your answer and it gets added to the website.

I have two goals with this website :

  1. bring a little bit of hope and clarity to people who will answer the question (this is already happening to me)
  2. create a collection of wishes we can get inspired by
Dear Future website showing a wish prompt and an anonymous response over a colorful Felix Vallotton landscape.

little things I had fun with on this project :

  • made an animated painting for the background : actually tested several paintings and tools but I ended up having the results I wanted from Canva (subtle, no music, short) and a sweet landscape from Félix Vallotton.
  • added a dynamic element to the question : the day of week always matches the actual day of the week (if Monday, then the question ask Monday...)
