I've been writing for years now (mostly in Les Papiers) about how we need to take back control over the internet by finding ways to make it work for us. And that it included reducing its toxicity with the use of good systems and little tools.
and now you tell me I can make my own tools ? well, hell yeah i'm rolling with the vibe coding wave.
this month :
- I cancelled Obsidian Sync because it was so fricking buggy and I don't use obsidian on mobile anyway (it's too fucking prone to conflicts) - and I replaced it with a simple little script that saves my vault to a cloud a couple of times per day = $120/ year saved and the immense satisfaction of having done something exactly like I want it to be done
- I put together a replacement for Sublime (which I talked about here : ive unlocked sublime) - I was frustrated of the speed of the MCP and I really wasn't using the social aspect of it all. I wanted some way to save actual pictures and build a proper collection. So I made my own Taste Archive, and it's still new but it's been a lot of fun and veeeeeery useful. This project will probably ask of me to learn to build IOS apps eventually, another giddy prospect. = $70/y saved and again, something that works better for me.
- I solved my problem with Substack Notes : being served a couple of stupid takes and being unable to ignore them when I'm in a bad mood. A simple extension that gives me an ON and OFF toggle to hide the feed (even before hitting substack) and replace it with buttons to go see my fav creators or attend to my own notes.
- I also put together a library for my HTML artefacts : I've been using more and more HTML because it's prettier and nicer to read analysis this way. But I was frustrated by having to be on my computer to read them (local files). So I made myself a simple password protected website where I can publish those and read them on my phone while laying in ridiculous positions on my bed when the body energy leaves me.
It's all the concrete result of ai made us builders again. And I'm loving it.
On the writing front :
- i'm very active on substack notes
- a lot less here as I'm battling (again) with preciosity
- making videos of my tools on the french youtube channel
- and trying to get some kind of consistency going on twitter
and on the business front, if I'm being honest, it's been mostly getting frustrated at clients not being ready on time. Why is the world constantly late ?
Oh and personally:
- i'm working on making the hard stuff casual : continuing on my fuck format era, I aim to 'just do the things' (write more, just make the video, worry less, plan less)
- adjencently, i'm aiming to make it more about me and less about others - this sounds awfully self-centered, but I'm a high masking autistic woman who has spend her whole life trying to understand other and repressing her own tendencies to 'be normal' - you can say I'm unleashing my weirdness
- i've opened up to my doctor about some medical stuff that's been hard to accept and talk about - taking steps now to diagnose and see what we can do about it
- boundaries (mostly with clients)
